Mataram -- The Institute for Community Service and Research (LPPM) at Muhammadiyah University of Mataram (UMMAT) held a training session on writing research and community service proposals for UMMAT’s internal programs, Matching Fund, and BRIN in the 3rd-floor auditorium of the UMMAT Rectorate Building. The event took place over two days, December 28–29, 2022, with the objectives of increasing researchers’ interest, enhancing grant acquisition opportunities, boosting researchers’ confidence, increasing the number of research and PKM proposals, improving the quality of research and PKM proposals, and sharing experiences. It was attended by 60 participants in person, representing their respective study programs, and online by all UMMAT faculty members.

Dr. Ibrahim Ali, M.Sc., Chair of the UMMAT Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) and chair of the event organizing committee, said that this event was intended to motivate faculty members to develop proposals and increase grant awards. Compared to last year, while many submitted proposals, few were able to successfully demonstrate the planned outcomes.

“In addition, this is intended to motivate faculty members to make new breakthroughs to the fullest extent possible, particularly in drafting proposals and producing maximum outputs. Given that your outputs greatly support the performance of the LPPM, even though—in terms of clusters—the university is already in the top tier for research but remains in the “mentored” cluster for community service. “One of the metrics is to elevate the university’s excellence by increasing the number of publications in national and international journals, the number of research grants, and the number of intellectual property rights,” he said.
UMMAT Rector Drs. Abdul Wahab, MA., delivered opening remarks and officially launched the training program, stating that research and community service are the essence of the Tri Dharma of higher education.
“I urge all faculty members to prioritize our research—both national and international—to advance the quality of our campus. And hopefully, by 2024, UMMAT will have at least 2 or 3 full professors,” he said.
To support this training program, competent speakers were invited, including Dr. Ibrahim, M.Sc. (Internal Research Grant), Dr. Nurhayati, MP (Internal Community Service Grant), Prof. Dr. Drh. Lili Zalizar, MS (Matching Fund Grant, UM Malang/National Reviewer), and Prof. Ir. Sarjito, Ph.D., IPM (BRIN Grant/UM Surakarta Matching Fund/National Reviewer). The expected outcome after participating in this program is that faculty members will be able to draft research and community service grant proposals and compete for internal grants, BRIN grants, and Matching Fund grants.
